I am thinking about installing Ubuntu/Edubuntu on one or two computers
at my school.  I might be able to do it alone, but it will likely go a
lot faster and smoother if someone who has experience with Ubuntu is
with me at the time.  Also, I would like to test out the Edubuntu
Classroom LTSP server and I have little experience setting up servers,
so I would like some help with that too.

If you have time time/patience/inclination to help with this project,
and you would be willing to come to the school at some point (weekday
or weekend), please let me know.  I can provide transportation (and
lunch/supper depending on the time of day).

It has a lovely name called: Lovinghut.

Take the train & alight at yotsuya sanchyome station. It��s just round the corner.

The restaurant is small but cozy. I like the food & atmosphere there.

Overseas Student Co-ordinator for International Relations (OSCIR)

Tsukuba City Hall is looking to employ 12 international students to
help with various duties at City Hall.
Applicants must:
(1) be residents of Tsukuba,
(2) be enrolled as international students at a college, university,
or graduate school,
(3) have at least one more year to complete their program,
(4) be able to communicate in Japanese,
(5) be computer-literate and be able to use word processing software, and
(6) above all, be interested in promoting international relations and
providing information to the international community of Tsukuba.
This time, the city will hire native speakers of English, Chinese,
Korean, Thai, Spanish and Portuguese.

Duties will include translating and interpreting for the city,
publishing (including translating, editing, printing and distributing)
a monthly newsletter in the OSCIR$B!G(Bs native language, and participating
in international events sponsored by the city.
This time the term of the OSCIR will be from April 1, 2009
to March 31, 2010.

Compensation for publishing the newsletter is set at 9000 yen/page.
Additional payments will be made for translating and interpreting for
international events.
*NB: A 10 % tax will be deducted from the above amounts unless
your home country or region has special tax exemption agreements
with Japan.

To apply,
$B!&(B fill out an application form (available at the Sakura Branch Office,
local universities, Tsukuba Central Library and the English website
of Tsukuba City Hall,

The application procedure will consist of two stages:
(1) initial screening of your documents, and
(2) an interview and  a translation test.

at the Sakura Branch Office.
Only the candidates who pass the initial screening will be notified
to set an interview time.

The deadline for application is January 23 (Fri.), 2009 at 5pm.
Hand in the form directly to the International Relations & Culture
Division or send it by mail.
In case of mailing the form, be sure to include your phone number and
email address.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some information regarding a portable electronic kanji reader, I imagine that many of the Taira readers may also be interested. I'll summarize all of the responses I may get and send them out later this week.

I saw a similar product in the United Airlines SkyMall catalog during my recent overseas trip and it caught my interest. Considering my own Kanji reading abilities, I thought this might really help out in reading printed text such as magazines or newspapers. Any experiences, thoughts, alternate suggestions, etc.?

It's about 30,000 yen, so it's not cheap, but might be worth it if it works well. I'd love to know if anyone of you have actually tried one before or know of a better product.
